Alex Othman jr's Solidworks Pliers Project

Alex Othman Jr's Second Real Object Solidworks Project V1
Q: What object are you measuring?
Alex: The object is set of vintage PEXTO “Pliers". Next we measured the object to put it into SolidWorks and construct it.

Q:How did you go from the object in your hand to putting it in SolidWorks?

Alex: We used a measurement tool that’s called dial caliper, which measures the different side of an object by inches, then we put it on a paper.

Q: What is SolidWorks?
Alex: SolidWorks is this program that allows you to make 3D objects in an app with the right measurements.

Q: What did you start off with to make the pliers?
Alex: Well first we started with a sketch of the item that we were using and put all the measurements onto a paper for when we used SolidWorks.

Q:What does it look like in SolidWorks?
Alex: these are the sketches and measurements of how we made the handle and the other parts of the pliers like the jaws, the cutter, and the pivot point.Q: What did you do after you had all the sketches in place.Alex:I extruded the front part of the pliers and lofted the handles.Q: What is a Loft? and what is an Extrude?Alex: A loft is a feature in SolidWorks that is used to make a 3D object by following sketches. An extrude is also a features that is used to make 3D objects, but is it adds material to a sketch rather than follow it.Q: What else did you do to the pliers in SolidWorks?Alex: I added the teeth of the pliers by cut extruding it with a sketch I made.Q: What do the pliers look like when they are all together?   Alex: When both parts of the pliers are put together, they look like a real 3D pair of pliers you would buy at a hardware store.Q: Can you give us other samples of what’s possible in SolidWorks?
Alex: I have made things like a Lego car from different parts and shapes of Lego pieces.

Q: Dude that is so cool! Did you make the wheels turn?

Alex: Yes, you are able to make the wheels from the car move.
